In Lerner and Loewe’s Broadway musical My Fair Lady, Professor Henry Higgins rants and raves against the “fairer sex.”  He has a long list of complaints about his female acquaintances.  For instance, he says, a woman will “beg you for advice, your reply will be concise, and she’ll listen very nicely, then go out and do precisely what she wants!”
