I recently came across a little drawing of a sticky note or piece of memo paper. The kind we might use to leave a message for our family on the refrigerator or by the phone. The note read:
“Gone to the Father’s House to prepare your place – will be back soon to pick you up.” Signed, “Jesus.”
What a neat way to picture the Lord’s return! As darkness falls on our world, many of us begin to feel alone and abandoned – like a child whose parents have forgotten to pick him up from school. Evil grows all around us. And the Scripture provides us with some pretty eerie imagery of the “end times.”
We wonder: Could this symbol be the mark of the beast? Could that world leader be the anti-Christ? Are we ready for the rapture or will we be left behind? Pretty frightening stuff.
When Jesus told His disciples about all the things that were going to happen, they were sad and frightened, too. Especially when He said that He would be leaving them soon.
In John 14, Jesus said, “Don’t be troubled. You trust God, now trust in Me. There are many rooms in my Father’s home, and I am going to prepare a place for you. If this were not so, I would tell you plainly. When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with Me where I am.” (NLT)
For those who have put their trust in Him, Jesus’ return is something to look forward to with an ever-growing sense of joyous anticipation. It doesn’t matter how dark the days grow down here…
We can find comfort and peace in the knowledge that Jesus has been preparing a special place for us in Heaven — and He’ll be back soon to pick us up!
