Just Ask

It’s a common complaint of women everywhere:  Men are forever getting lost, because they won’t stop and ask for directions. To be perfectly fair, I think it’s an affliction that affects both sexes.  We women may be quick to buy a map for a road trip, but there are plenty of other projects we plunge into – only to find ourselves in over our heads.  And just like the guys, we refuse to ask for help.

Why is that?  Why are we all so reluctant to ask for guidance and direction when we need it?  Maybe it’s because we’re in denial – we won’t admit that we have a problem.  Sometimes, we’re embarrassed about it.  We don’t want anyone to think we’re stupid.  Other times, we’re so busy trying to solve things on our own that it doesn’t even occur to us to ask for help.

When you think about it, it’s really silly.  We just keep digging ourselves deeper into a pit, when the best solution—the only solution – is to ask for help.  James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all, without finding fault…” (NIV)  God never says to us, “How many times do I have to help you?  When are you going to figure it out on your own?”  No -- of course not! He loves to help us.  He longs to help us.

Having trouble with your teenager?  Ask God to show you what to do. Problems at work?  Ask God.  Need inspiration for a creative project?  Ask God. Whatever situation you face today, God knows exactly what to do.  He’ll show you – if you just ask Him!
