Do you know what love is?
Hi I’m Christin Ditchfield and this is Take It To Heart!
One of the greatest longings of the human heart – some would say THE greatest longing — is to love and be loved. But what does that mean? What does it look like? How does it feel? Is what we’ve experienced the real thing – and is it all there is? Or is there something more?
It’s the subject of countless poems, plays, and novels, not to mention almost every song you hear on the radio. The Bible gives us a beautiful description of love – true love – in 1 Corinthians 13:
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-8)
We don’t have to wonder; we can know what true love is – what it looks like and feels like – what it means to truly love someone and to be truly loved by them in return.
But wait! There’s more…The Bible tells us: “This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son … as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” (1 John 4:9-10)
The ultimate example of passionate, committed, sacrificial love is Jesus, Himself. The Scripture tells us, “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13) And that’s just what Jesus did for us.
As someone once put it: I asked Jesus how much He loved me. He said, “This much.” Then He stretched out His arms and died.
So you DO know what it means to be loved – truly loved. Please share that love with someone else today
